Full review

Huffy has been building affordable bikes for decades, and the Stone Mountain is a straightforward execution of that formula: a durable steel frame, dual suspension that takes the edge off potholes and gravel, and a 21-speed Shimano setup that covers most hill-climbing needs without the price tag of a specialty MTB brand.

With over 4,500 ratings, it's the most reviewed bike in this catalog by a wide margin, and the pattern in that feedback is consistent: buyers call it "simple and rugged" and appreciate that it holds up to daily use — one owner specifically bought it as a reliable backup transportation option. The rare complaint centers on build-quality expectations at this price point, not on the bike falling apart.

Pros

  • 21-speed Shimano drivetrain handles hills without a premium price
  • Front-and-rear suspension smooths out trails and rough pavement
  • Available in three wheel sizes (20"/24"/26") to fit a wide age range
  • Reliable enough that owners trust it for daily, dependable use

Cons

  • Steel frame means it's on the heavier side at 35.3 lbs
  • A few buyers feel the finish doesn't quite match a mid-range price bike

What buyers say

With 4,519 ratings and a 3.9-star average, the Huffy Stone draws praise for being simple, rugged and dependable for daily riding; the handful of critical reviews focus on cosmetic finish rather than mechanical failures.

WAY better looking than I expected! :-)

I live in Oregon where we're expecting a big quake, and I got this bike as a way to quickly retrieve my child from school after the quake when most of the roads are out. I was looking for a fairly inexpensive, but good, mountain bike I could keep in the garage. Google Gemini pointed me to several, and the price was right for this one. I picked the cheapest color, and I picked one that was "Used - Like New", and ordered it. I frankly expected it to be ugly, or super heavy, or generally cheap, but the opposite is true. I didn't really like how the black bike looks in the pictures, but it actuall

Simple and Rugged

I've had my Stone Mountain for nearly a year now, and I have been extremely pleased with the thing. The bike is simple and rugged; for me, it has been way more reliable than I expected. I've been using it for my daily commute, in hot sun, driving rain, and even some snow, and I've put something over 1000 miles on it. It has been a fantastic value for the price. Probably not the best choice for use on pavement (the rear tire has been worn flat, so I'll need to replace it soon), but a great starter bike for general use.

Shame on Amazon for labeling this “Amazons Choice”

I really hate writing a bad review, I have a business and I understand when idiots want to rant about nonsense to get money back. That’s not why I am here. I am here because I just want to save others from going through what I went through. I almost always read reviews before I buy, but I didn’t on this one because I trusted the “Amazon’s Choice” label that’s put next to the rating. I figured I can’t go wrong. I don’t know pricing on bikes, and I take responsibility for that, if I knew that the price would lead to me saying “you get what you pay for” I would have bought a nicer bike, which, I’

Just what we wanted with adjustments

My wife wanted a relatively light bike with hand brakes and several speeds for riding on a dirt track near our neighborhood. This was just what she needed. Not as light as the more expensive alloy or composite frames, but light enough. The gears shift by rotating a knob next to the hand grips so hands stay in contact with the handlebars. The bike came with a narrow, racing type seat; she liked the bike a lot better when we switched it for a more comfort seat. As others have noted, the bike came 90% assembled; all I had to do was put on the handlebars, the pedals, the seat and the front wheel.
